General MBA Interview Tips
- Make sure your background or attire doesn’t speak louder than you do
- Be willing to ask for a moment to think
- Be willing to ask if you’re answering the question, especially if their body language seems different
- Be prepared to talk to the top of someone’s head as they write down notes
- Know your story well - but make it seem spontaneous (a bit of acting)
- To do this, jot down words then prompt your key messages and post them on your monitor, rather than narrating a script
- Focus on projecting warmth, humor and positive vibes (this is probably the most important thing)...someone they want as part of their network and community
- Choose a mix of stories that are and aren’t in your application materials
- Demonstrate consistency with what’s in your application, especially goals and characteristics
- Put more focus on helping them get to know you than “impressing” them, which will leave a better feeling and a more lasting impression
- Look over your story and prepared responses and ask, “would I want to be on the receiving end of this?”
- Be in the moment - put “getting in” to the side and focus on having a positive experience with the person in front of you
