General MBA Interview Tips

  1. Make sure your background or attire doesn’t speak louder than you do
  2. Be willing to ask for a moment to think
  3. Be willing to ask if you’re answering the question, especially if their body language seems different
  4. Be prepared to talk to the top of someone’s head as they write down notes
  5. Know your story well - but make it seem spontaneous (a bit of acting)
  6. To do this, jot down words then prompt your key messages and post them on your monitor, rather than narrating a script
  7. Focus on projecting warmth, humor and positive vibes (this is probably the most important thing)...someone they want as part of their network and community
  8. Choose a mix of stories that are and aren’t in your application materials
  9. Demonstrate consistency with what’s in your application, especially goals and characteristics
  10. Put more focus on helping them get to know you than “impressing” them, which will leave a better feeling and a more lasting impression
  11. Look over your story and prepared responses and ask, “would I want to be on the receiving end of this?”
  12. Be in the moment - put “getting in” to the side and focus on having a positive experience with the person in front of you
